Always make sure that when you travel, it won’t rain.
We didn’t get to visit Mitra’s Ranch in our itinerary as rained, from a sunny sky and suddenly to a rainy one. It was hard to tour the place when it’s all wet, so I can only offer a few here.
Palawan is rich in activities, numerous things can be done here even in a short amount of time and these are some top things to do in Puerto Princesa!

Top Things to do in Puerto Princesa
1 | RENT A BIKE IN PUERTO PRINCESA BAY WALK PARK
Enjoy the view of the bay while riding a bike in this park. You can rent a bike here for a few hours for some cheap activities or go food tripping at night, the park offers different seafood stalls that you might wanna try when you visit.
2 | ISLAND HOPPING IN HONDA BAY
Honda bay has a lot to offer, from starfishes, a floating island (well, not really, it’s just invisible when on a high tide), an eat-all-you-can buffet and more. The activities on each island differs on what the island offers, go snorkeling, diving or feed the fishes. Don’t miss the fun!
3 | THE CROCODILE FARM
If you pick the right time to visit, you’ll get to see the crocodile feeding time. The baby crocodiles are separated by tubs(like bath tubs), it smells a little on their feeding time (from the raw meat). The tour also includes visiting the large version of these reptiles, just don’t fall off while sightseeing, the place reminds me of Jurassic Park the movie. Anyways, they’re cute in their own way.
You can go picture taking with the scaly crocs before you leave this area, they will let you handle a croc with it’s mouth taped. The croc’s skin on their tummy part is soft and their outer skin is tough.
If you’re feeling carnivoristic, you can order a croco dish just outside the area.
4 | BUY SOME SWEETS IN BAKER’S HILL
This themed bakery will make you feel like you’re in a theme park, the place is full of life-sized statues of Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck, Snow White and the mansion here are so beautiful!
Baker’s Hill is famous for their hopia, there are different flavors you choose from. They also have cakes, cheesecakes, chocolate crinkles and other baked goodies for your pasalubong.
5 | IWAHIG FIREFLY WATCHING + SEAFOOD BUFFET!
You really can’t take a picture of the fireflies here, firstly, flash photos are prohibited and it’s so dark your camera will only capture the dimness of the night. Focus less on your camera lens and savour the beauty of the mangroves and the fireflies through your own eyes. The mangroves will look like Christmas trees when the fireflies light up and the place is so dark that I advise you to look up and gaze at the starry night. Maybe you’ll also feel just how little you are in this vast universe.
Our firefly tour ended with eating at a floating restaurant, it’s an eat-all-you-can seafood buffet which is included in our package tour. The food is very delicious! Some people on our boat was taken to a different restaurant, they were not happy with their meals, so make sure when you take a tour in Iwahig, your dinner is on the floating restaurant.
6 | VISIT THE WONDER OF UNDERGROUND RIVER + EAT-ALL-YOU-CAN BUFFET!
One of the Seven Wonders of the World is this Subterranean River National Park, famously known as the Underground River in Puerto Princesa. There are various rock formations inside this cave, expect the place to be quiet and dark, the noise you can hear will only be coming from the bats and the water.
To get to the underground river, there will be another boat ride to get to the separate island, the waves may be rough depending on the weather, when we visited, we get to ride above huge waves! Our package tour also has another eat-all-you-can buffet here, so we get to eat while waiting for our turn.
OTHER SUGGESTED PLACES TO VISIT:
- VISIT MITRA’S RANCH
- PLAZA CUARTEL
- FEEL THE THRILL IN UGONG ROCK
- WATCH THE SUNSET IN NAGTABON BEACH
- BE REFRESHED IN ESTRELLA WATERFALLS
- GO DOLPHIN WATCHING IN THE OCEAN
Our group bought a packaged tour from an agency, we bought our own plane tickets and decided to list down all the places we want to visit and ask an agency to quote for us the prices of the activities. Getting a tour via an agency also has its perks, the extra rates of the activity go to the conservation of the island, it also helps the locals to modernize their roads to bring more tourists to Palawan.
Palawan offers a lot of beautiful places, firefly watching was definitely my favorite, the view of the starry skywas very breathtaking, if only I have a camera then that can capture the beauty of it at that time. Additional to this are the 3 eat-all-you-can buffets that they included in our itinerary, I enjoyed all the food especially in the floating restaurant! Agar-agar (sea grapes), squids, mussels, crabs what more can I ask for? This completes my day!
WHAT'S YOUR MEMORABLE TRIP IN PALAWAN?
What places do you recommend when in Puerto Princesa?
When I was picking whether to travel in Coron, El Nido or Puerto Princesa, I just wanted a place where there are a lot of activities to do. I researched and it’s more in Puerto Princesa. I’m not really a fan of swimming in the sea, beaches or wherever water. Must be a bit weird for a girl but, I just prefer more rare activities to do. So the other two was just meh..
- I totally recommend Firefly watching in Ihawig. The starry sky is very romantic. And most importantly…the eat-all-you-can buffet on the floating restaurant is a MUST!
- Honday Bay Island hopping is fun too! But the sea view near the underground river is superb! Plus the seafood buffet there is delicioso!
