Finally! After weeks of our delayed trip, we successfully got the chance to trek Tinipak river in Tanay, Rizal! But before that, we wanted an affordable place to rest before going to our destination.
We wanted our trip to start early morning so we decided to travel at night and book a room instead of killing time at a 24-hr fast food restaurant. And so, I searched of places in Tanay where we can settle the night, the most I found are luxurious resorts, there are affordable ones too but was very far to Tinipak River.
While searching for accomodations near Daraitan area, I stumbled at Sampaloc Inn, a few kilometers away to Tinipak, and location-wise is very accessible with affordable rates too. The rooms are available in Agoda.com, we three booked a family room with free breakfast included. To start with, here’s my Sampaloc Inn review.
A CONVENIENT STAY-OVER INN BEFORE OUR TRIP TO BRGY. DARAITAN
The ride from EDSA Starmall to Tanay Public Market was a rough one, the roads are very curvy that I got a little car sick. Arriving midnight in Tanay, we rode a tricycle to Sampaloc Inn, they charged us Php250 for the ride, there was no other transportation that late evening.
A guy was in the front desk of the inn, and talking to him, I already feel that he’s not the one in charge, he didn’t know how we booked our rooms and was skeptical about the printed voucher we showed him.We just said to him that we already paid our room fee online and the room we book is a family room, after a short talk he led us to our room.
If you’re bringing a car, you can park it just outside the inn, all are non-smoking rooms, for the wifi, it can only be accessed in public areas.
SAMPALOC INN REVIEW
THE FAMILY BEDROOM
I was not expecting too much on the rooms, we just wanted a place to sleep the night before our trek.
For a Family room, it is basically simple with:
- 2 queen sized beds
- an air conditioner
- a cabinet
- a mini table
- a private bathroom
- mini soaps
- tissue rolls
Sorry for the messy room in the picture above, we were a bit rushing
What I liked most is how spaaaaacious our room is! I can even run inside there! Two words, the bedroom was basically simple and clean, as for the bathroom, I’ll talk of it down below this post for a separate review.
The bed is comfortable, as for the mattress, it was thick so it didn’t hurt my back. The blanket is just a thin cloth and didn’t smell anything funny (just wanted to make sure of the smell haha). It was a comfortable rest for me here.
Well…..it is quite dissapointing. It is very small and you can see water stains of the steel from the faucet and the shower. I got the feeling that even when I take a bath here I’ll just come out still dirty. I wanted to say that they should also clean the bathrooms and not only the bedrooms. It was not that dirty but still…seeing those stains makes me criiiinge. This is definitely a place to stay to for a while, not as an overnight or a whole day stay.
Didn’t have the time to eat breakfast, sadly. They start serving dishes at 7am or 8am, and we checked out at 6 in the morning since Barangay Daraitan is an hour away from the inn.

From EDSA Starmall: Ride a UV Express van or a jeepney and ask the driver to drop you off at Tanay public market. UV fare is Php70.

Sampaloc Inn is just like any other budget hotel, so don’t expect too much. If you just really need a place to stay the night, I recommend this inn, their room rates and convenient location are the best you can find in Tanay. Apart from the rooms, I want to try the food in their restaurant if I ever get to visit this place again. The entrance to their inn has a very home-y feel to it that makes you feel welcome inside.

IF CONVENIENCE IS YOUR PRIORITY...
Great location for most of the tourist spots
Not the best accommodation out there but it’s got the basics down. Its location is its greatest asset, the place is at the center of the best spots to see in Tanay.
