Apart from airfares, accommodations take a huge chunk out of our travel budget and every time we travel, we know this, whether inside or outside our home country’s. Us travelers can stay at dormitory type hostels or couch surf for free, but nothing beats the security of a private room right? It lessens our worries about the things we might leave behind, even if our luggages are in a locker, we might now know what will happen, especially if you’re also forgetful of things. And if you also prefer to work while traveling, private rooms are worth the extra expense.

Traveling can be reaaaaally cheap depending on our choices, thankfully Asia is cheaper than other continents ! And the more you are in a group the less money you need to cash out your pockets. But for a solo traveler like me and anyone, like me, who still prefer less worries for our things, here’s where to book accommodations in Asia~
TYPES OF ACCOMMODATIONS WITH PRIVATE ROOMS
I am open to dormitory type accommodations, but as a forgetful person I need to have someone with me, who will remind if there are things I might forget. My first option if traveling solo is to have a private room, but what type of rooms can we choose from?
- Budget hotels
- Apartment rental

There are different types of hotel now that offers cheap stay-per-night rate. Hotels are the most common type of private accommodation, it’s a little above a typical backpacker’s budget, but there are a lot of affordable ones now.
This is best when traveling on a budget as a family, a group or just for 2 people, since the costs can be shared. Do take note, that cheap hotels may be too far from the city and commuting may be hard, another is they may have undesirable conditions.
What I like about this is they usually have a kitchen to cook our own meals (saves a lot of budget for food) and a private bathroom. We rented an apartment room for 4 days in Japan at a really cheap price, but the place is far from the station. Always research the place if they are near transportation options!
They are relatively cheaper than hotels, and usually fully furnished, this is your option if you want the feeling of staying at a home.
As the name suggests, it is like a living in someone’s house as a “guest”. Room types can be for a solo person or dormitory type. Common breakfast rooms, bathrooms, lounge are shared with other guests’. If you prefer to socialize with other travelers or with locals, this is your pick.
This is a great option if you want a private space to work and then go mingling after with others at the end of your day.
WHERE TO BOOK CHEAP ACCOMMODATIONS IN ASIA
Now that we have ideas on what type of accommodations we can have for a private room, it’s time to book those rooms!. These are the top go-to websites for the cheapest choices of accommodation for a budget traveler.
Airbnb.com is a cheap alternative to hotels wherein hosts share their spaces like apartments and condos. I find this the cheapest especially when staying for long at a place, renting an apartment is mostly like renting a room at a hotel, only it’s more homey. Booking in Airbnb is strict, mostly the hosts will only give back only 50% of refund, read their rules and book wisely.

Booking.com offers a wider range of accommodation from different parts of the world. Sometimes, there are luxurious hotels on sale for a real cheap price too! You can book in advance for and cancel it a few days before the date for FREE, depending on the cancellation deadline.
These are only some of the options to cut costs on renting private rooms when traveling, personally I’ve tried all except Hotels.com. It’s better to compare all when they have the same hotels offering.

So far, what's the best room you have booked?
The cheapest I’ve booked is always in airbnb. But sometimes in booking.com too when they have promos.
